Pushing Beyond the Landscape! with Laurinda Phakos O'Connor

Let’s have fun during this supportive workshop! We will deconstruct, interpret, and let go of our reference through gesture, value maps, abstracting our structure, various under painting techniques, and mark making. We will start with a demonstration and we will create small studies with different techniques, before we let loose on our scene in the afternoon! There will be new approaches to try, boundaries to push, and plenty of individual instruction as we make the scene ours before ending with a group critique. All artists using soft pastels, oil, or acrylic paints are welcome, please bring what you use for supplies. Some painting experience is helpful. Please bring your photographs.

About the Instructor: ​Laurinda O'Connor

As a pastel artist, I strive to let simplified strokes of color and line create a path into a scene and moment in time. I push myself to capture the sense I feel from the landscape as well as to create the up-close excitement of color, texture, and expression on the surface of my paper.
