    Tony Andrade
    April 13 - May 31

    Ventress Memorial Library in Marshfield

Join us Friday, April 19, 5:30-7:30PM for the opening reception!

Tony Andrade has been making art since the early 1980's. After art school he worked as a graphic designer for various small companies and studios. Then as an advertising art director when he left and started freelancing as a designer/art director. It grew into a small firm of his own doing projects in the healthcare field to publication design for national publications for clients such as the U.S. Olympic Committee, U.S. Open Tennis and their affiliated publications.

    Artist Statement:

I have been exploring more in my painting for the past few years. From a Garden Series, to colorful oil/wax abstracts, to recent landscapes, to letting go with drawings in abstract and imaginary forms. All fun and exciting for me. I look for inspiration whenever and wherever life occurs. Often you don't have to look any further than your own garden. It can inspire you in the most profound - or yes, in its simplest ways!

As a former designer/art director I like the message to be clear, concise and even confusing at times. Whatever it takes to draw the audience in. Whether they stay is the trick, I do explore more these days. Maybe because the days are passing me by more quickly? I believe change is good for the soul. When I start a new painting I want it to take me to new places, it's what I find so appealing in making art. It can be daunting at times and us artists can struggle with it. Creating something unique and relevant to who I am is my own goal. When I think I'm getting closer I feel that pull. I'm not sure why, I just try and make the most of the ride. I'll leave you with your own questions and hope your answers are satisfying to each of you.

Join us for yoga and artwork at North River Art Society! Ages 3+

This is a super fun program designed to teach children the basics of mindfulness, meditation and movement. We’ll be using provided materials to make crafts for our yoga story flow lead by yoga instructor, Chrissy Sullivan.

We’ll also be learning helpful breathwork techniques to calm our nervous systems at any age! Each class will have an educational theme and will include partner and group poses, easy alignment tips and some singing and dancing!

To register a sibling: please add a "guest" at registration for discounted price.

Chrissy is a certified Vinyasa Yoga instructor with an additional specialization in youth and mindfulness. She has two beautiful babies who can often be found flowing beside her. Ever since she was a child herself, Chrissy has been drawn to a more spiritual and artistic way of life. She is greatly influenced by her grandmother, a lifelong montessori teacher and her great aunt, a Harvard professor and yoga guru. As a true nurturer, Chrissy has always been drawn to helping others. She believes it’s so important to start with our youth. If we can teach children the basic principles of yoga and how to calm their own central nervous systems we can directly benefit their lives and our communities as a whole. Chrissy created MinniYogi in 2020, a carefully curated yoga program for children and caregivers of all ages. The program includes flashcards which teach the child and caregiver the basics of yoga and meditation and how to apply them to everyday life. Chrissy incorporates the cards in all of her classes. Come join us for lots of silliness and learning! Because children learn best when having fun!

Is there anything more exciting and rewarding than painting plein air?  Join us as we navigate the thrills and challenges of painting in nature this Spring!  Learn or master the skills of judging the light, fending off the breeze, capturing that certain something that appeals to you in an outdoor setting!  This highly engaged, friendly and supportive group is intrepid and inclusive.

Each week we are at a different location - we’ll paint the ocean, marshes, architecture and gardens!  Perhaps this year we will add a figure in the landscape?!?!  I will get all of your phone numbers so I can text you if there is a sudden change in location due to weather, or any other reason. Students can use any media they have familiarity with.  All levels, but I will be painting in acrylic or gouache.  I usually know where there is a nearby restroom.  Some weeks I will demo but will mostly be occupied with your progress and efforts.

    About the Instructor: Kelley MacDonald

After getting her Art History degree at Wheaton College, Kelley continued taking art classes at various Art Associations for 10 years before she started painting.  First with watercolor, then oil and now happily with acrylic and mixed media, it has been a lifetime of growing and exploring all things art.

Kelley has won numerous awards, and has taught classes and workshops for many years.  While for the majority of her career Kelley has been a literal, representational painter, in the past 4 years she has been diving into abstraction, particularly Intuitive Abstraction.  The history involved on the canvas, the multiple layers, the reveal and conceal and push and pull are what attracts her to this method.

A favorite thing to do is to travel, and be inspired by different landscapes and  cityscapes.  Kelley has traveled to Holland to paint, along with many places on this side of the ocean, namely Nova Scotia, Sedona, Santa Fe, St. Simon’s Island, Seattle, San Miguel de Allende, MX, California and Maine.

In 2009 Kelley founded the Artists’ Challenge Group “Girls Just Wanna Paint” which is a collection of award winning artists  who post a response to a new topic every month consecutively since July of 2009. Aside from the Providence Art Club Kelley is a member of the North River Arts Society in Marshfield, MA.  She has taught at the Art Club, Bristol Art Museum, and at North River Arts Society.

This is a guided plein air class with the intention of creating various color studies for a larger studio piece. Ann will coordinate with students to visit and paint at four locations. Each location will be visited twice, with the first visit involving a demo from Ann and hands-on guidance. The second visit will allow artists to work on their study mostly independently. Get outside, do intentional color studies together and prepare for a larger studio landscape in the fall!

    About the Instructor: Ann Musto

Ann has been a plein air and studio oil painter for over twenty years. Her interest lies in working to capture the beauty of what we see in light and color.  Ann’s work includes portraits, landscapes and still life. This workshop will embrace the importance of a daily painting practice as a path to improving creativity and image making skills. Through a combination of demos, in-class assignments, and individual instruction each student will learn techniques to create fresh, deliberate marks. Guided by an artist who has made over 5,400 daily, consecutive, paintings (so far) you’ll embrace the painting process while learning tricks to stay inspired and motivated, as well as generate ideas for your own daily practice. All levels are welcome.

About the Instructor: Lisa Daria Kenedy

Lisa Daria Kennedy has been making one small painting every single day for the last 5,400 days, this spring marks her 15th year anniversary. After this many years, she has no intention of stopping. Having cancer as a young adult, she has discovered living is not just surviving. She questioned what can a life amount to and was acutely aware of all the time she’d wasted and the things she put off - like painting. But, the idea of starting an artistic project and failing was terrifying. She had a moment of clarity and pared the creative process down to this one idea - show up for the job. And she started showing up for her new job in 2009 and without excuse wakes up every day at five and paints.

BIO Lisa Daria Kennedy grew up along the northeast edge of the Hockomock Swamp in Massachusetts. She received her BA from Roger Williams University in Graphic Design, a BFA and MFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Illustration and 2D, where she is currently an Associate Professor of Illustration. She lives 9 nautical miles from Boston in World’s End in an old fishing camp with her Wheaten Terrier, Olive the dog. When her daily painting is completed, she works on larger, narrative paintings, lisadariakennedy.com

In this workshop, you’ll learn the key concepts of painting interior scenes. Eli will demonstrate and explain her methods and work one-on-one with each student. The focus will be on: How light flows through a scene, illuminating forms and creating an evocative mood. Achieving accurate drawing and correct values; two of the most crucial aspects of representational painting. How to develop a well-balanced composition of light and shadow patterns  (chiaroscuro).
