Playful Practice, A Mixed Media Workshop with Karen Cass

This workshop is designed to help artists generate lots of fun materials to integrate into their existing creative practice. Whether a productive professional artist or a dabbler, we all need a jump start or a prompt to get us moving toward our next breakthrough. The simple act of producing intuitive drawings and painted or printed papers can be a therapeutic and super satisfying way to uplift, inspire and invite the unexpected into your creative process.

Karen Cass holds a BFA from Emmanuel College and an MFA from Massachusetts College of Art & Design in Boston, MA. She currently teaches art at the Center Elementary School in Hanover, MA. In addition to teaching art full time for over 600 students in grades 2-4, she keeps a vigorous studio schedule and shows regularly throughout New England and in New York. She is an active member of her local art community, deeply committed to supporting local artists and providing educational programs and exhibiting opportunities through her work as a dedicated member of the Hanover Cultural Council and a member of the faculty at the South Shore Art Center in Cohasset. She works primarily in mixed media, collage and various painting media. Her work is rooted in the landscape and nature, mostly fascinated with woodlands, rocky beaches and the interplay of plant life with water. Reflections and meditation are part of her creative practice which take her on a journey into the subconscious - conjuring an other-worldly sense of place in her work. The abstracted, atmospheric quality of her paintings and collages weave together a sense of memory and reverence to the natural world.
