Watercolor Techniques Workshop: Land, Sea, and Sky with Tara Connaughton

In this one-day workshop, we'll learn and practice core watercolor techniques through class exercises and a series of ‘postcard’ studies, focusing on creating skies (various weather, clouds), water/ocean painting techniques/textures, and land/trees (foreground to background).

Painting these landscape elements will help you hone foundational watercolor skills, and these ‘coastal building blocks’ can be used for a variety of painting subjects.

The class will include instructor demonstration and guidance through a series of in class exercises and small painting studies, along with inspiration and ideas for continued practice. You'll learn key process techniques for working with watercolor and layering paint that you can take into other subject matter and your future paintings.

To keep supplies costs low for students and to facilitate the class lessons, all necessary materials will be provided. You are welcome to bring your watercolor painting supplies if you have materials (such as brushes) that you are comfortable using.

Tara Connaughton is a local artist who teaches watercolor and botanical illustration through local workshops, privately, at organizations around the South Shore and the Massachusetts Horticultural Society botanical art program (Wellesley, MA). She has a Certificate in Botanical Art & Illustration through intensive study of this art form. Tara uses her passion for painting and love of nature to teach and inspire others to find their creative spirit and connect with the world around them. Tara is also a freelance illustrator, creating custom art and illustration for clients across a wide range of subjects, with a focus on  artwork for wedding invitations and stationery as well as house portraits.
